The Hospitalist Value Paradox

Hospitalist Programs are growing in cost and impact.  Hospitals are increasingly dependant on their Hospitalist Program. But executives face a legitimate “value paradox”; 1) Certain they can’t afford an unstable program, yet 2) Uncertain if they can afford a stable one!

The Salient Hospitalist Model is aligned around a single concept: Sustainability,  defined as the development and support of a Hospitalist Program capable of continued growth, positive organizational impact, favorable outcomes, all for a reasonable cost relative to programs of similar scope and complexity.

A highly sustainable Hospitalist Program is a desired state for what may amount to be the most important clinical service at a given hospital. Healthcare executives are able to confidently address the “value paradox” with assurance that the Hospitalist Service is delivering a great return on its investment!
